It's one thing to win an amazing award but the night was made perfect for our team by receiving it from the legendary Simon Weston CBE at the Devon Chamber Business Awards on Friday 18th May.
The humility and humour this man displayed during the evening, as he has throughout his life since the Falklands War, was absolutely fascinating and I know his presence was warmly received by all the businesses and their guests on the evening. The astonishing number of operations Simon has had to have since 1982 are now in the high nineties but it said much about the man's character and sheer bloody mindedness, that he has forged a good life for himself and his family and he has helped many individuals through his charitable work over the past three decades.
The British public hold this man in the highest regard and it was truly an honour to receive an award from him for "Commitment to People". We could not have wished to have received this from a better person.
We have now won 7 awards in just over two years which is quite staggering. The spirit of teamwork and innovation we have strived to embed into Portcullis has been recognised beyond our wildest imagination and we thank every team member, every professional friend and colleague in both the business and education sectors, and every single client that has ever put their trust in us to look after their legal needs over the past 30 years.
Well done to every other firm that won on the evening and every shortlisted firm. Forgive the pun but it is relevant to Devon, you are the cream of businesses in this county and that's why you were all shortlisted. There are many opportunities for businesses of all sizes in this 4th Industrial Revolution era, we just have to make sure we are all best placed and forward thinking enough to embrace them. Thank you to the Devon Chamber for organising such a wonderful event.
