Sisters must pay out £325,000 in will battle

This recent example of battles over Wills and inheritances clearly demonstrates the need for all parties to try and act in an honourable and decent way.

You should not ever forget that this all happens at a time when everyone is grieving at the loss of a loved one.

The judge in this case clearly took umbrage at the way in which the sisters firstly lied about not benefitting from the estate and then tried to give the impression that their father had led an open lifestyle that wasn’t “exclusive”.

I can fully understand why this award was made in favour of the father’s partner as they shared a life together and that needed to be recognised and consideration given to the lady involved.

It must be stated though that cases like this where provision is made for an unmarried partner, are not at all common.

You are far wiser to plan ahead and put a Will in place that ensures if you are living as a couple without being married or in a civil partnership, you are talking care of one another if that is your intention.

We can help at Portcullis Legals with fixed fee, friendly advice at a time and place that works best for you.
